Could be your flywheel worn out and causing a juddering? Autoexperts Medway in Gillingham are close to both Rochester and Chatham in Medway and can replace or fit clutches and flywheels in all types of vehicles.
The flywheel is attached to the end of an engine’s crankshaft and is the mechanism that transfers the engine’s power. The power is transferred to the gearbox via the clutch and finally to the wheels.
When the clutch pedal is not pushed down, the springs in the clutch push the pressure plate against the clutch disc. This in turn presses against the flywheel. This locks the engine to the gearbox input shaft, causing them to spin at the same speed.
The amount of force the clutch can hold depends on the friction between the clutch plate and the flywheel. If a clutch is worn or is contaminated with engine oil it can cause the clutch to slip. This is because there is less friction between the flywheel and the clutch plate.
Similarly if the pressure plate springs become weak. The amount of force exerting on the friction plate can become less, causing the clutch friction plate to slip. The only remedy is to replace the clutch kit.
With the growing concern for the environment and the development of more efficient engines, has allowed delivering more torque and power at low revolutions.
Dual Mass Flywheels were developed to address the escalation of torque and power especially at low revs. Traditional clutch discs are unable to absorb the increase in the level of vibration given from these more powerful efficient engines. Dual Mass Flywheels play a key role, making these mechanical developments more viable.
The absorption capacity of the vibration depends on the moving parts of the Dual Mass Flywheel. When replacing the clutch it is highly recommended that the DMF at the same time. The failure to do so may cause the new clutch or even the gearbox or crankshaft to suffer with excessive vibration and shorten their lives.
