PARTICULATE FILTER FORCED REGENERATION LIMP MODE NO ACCELERATION GILLINGHAM MEDWAY
These are symptoms that a de-particulate filter is blocked. A forced regeneration by Autoexperts Medway in Gillingham could be the answer to these running problems.
First of all, a DPF is a Diesel Particulate Filter. It is designed to remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. Diesel particulate filters usually remove 85% or more of the soot. Under certain conditions, it can become so efficient that they can remove 100% making some diesel engines cleaner than petrol engines.
Many DPF’s are designed to burn off the soot through the use of a catalyst. As well as by active means such as a fuel burner. A fuel burner heats the filter to soot combustion temperatures. This is accomplished by engine programming. The programme increases the exhaust temperature by using an extra fuel injector in the exhaust stream. This injector injects fuel to react with a catalyst element. As a result it burns off accumulated soot and converts it to ash. This is known as “filter regeneration”.
The regeneration process occurs at higher road speeds. Vehicles driven exclusively at low speeds require periodic trips at higher speeds to clean out the DPF. Constant around town low revs driving will cause the DPF to become blocked. As a result the regeneration process may require diagnostic equipment. The technicians at Autoexperts Medway have been very successful in carrying out a forced regeneration.
When a driver ignores the warning light and waits too long to operate the vehicle above 40 miles per hour. The DPF may not regenerate properly. Continued operation past that point may spoil the DPF completely. When a DPF becomes blocked the vehicle can go into limp mode. As a result this will affect acceleration and cause an EML to illuminate.
In some cases a forced regeneration may not be possible. When this happens the DPF has to be removed and physically cleaned or replaced. Both of which can become time consuming and potentially expensive. Our reception staff work hard to offer the cheapest and most cost effective way forward.
We at Autoexperts Medway have established a superb reputation for high quality replacement services. Refer to our testimonials from our customers from Chatham, Gillingham and Rochester on our testimonial page.
When carrying out a diagnosis a partial strip down may be necessary. Should your vehicle be stripped down and you agree to have the necessary work carried out. This initial diagnosis becomes part of the repair and this will probably reduce the overall repair costs.
