Heater

Does your vehicle’s heater not work?

Is the hot air not circulating? Has your car’s temperature gauge stopped working? Does it have a broken heater flap? Auto Experts Medway in Gillingham Medway can diagnose all heating problems.

Ventilation System Explained:

Modern cars are designed to have a constant through-flow of fresh air. This design keeps the interior atmosphere pleasant even with all the windows shut. The incoming cold air can be heated by the engine to keep the windows clear of mist. This in turn keeps your car interior at a chosen temperature.
Air enters a large duct at the front of the car commonly through grilles in the scuttle panel, They are placed so that when the car is moving the entry point is in a high-pressure area and air is forced in. From there it goes to the heater, which warms it if required.

How it works:

The incoming air can be heated as it enters the cabin. It does this by allowing air to pass though the fins of a mini radiator (Heater Matrix) that is normally situated in an air heater box behind the dash board.
Air blowers then blow the air through the front foot-wells and through vents on the dashboard. By changing the position of flaps and vents, they can be adjusted to point at the windscreen, the side windows or alternatively at the faces of the front-seat occupants.

Common Faults:

The most common fault with regards a vehicles heating system is only blowing warm air. One reason why this happens on older vehicles is possibly due to the heater matrix being partially blocked.
Circulating problems are another common occurrence and generally due to a mechanical fault. If heater vents or flaps are not working correctly, then the air flow can be constantly on hot or cold although the gauge reads normal. This will depend on the position of the flaps or vents when they became broken. This will obviously have an affect on the temperature of the internal heating. Similarly when there are problems with circulating air to particular vents. If a vent appears to not be getting air it could be that a flap is not working.
