Brake Servos

Is your brake pedal hard? Or is there a sucking/whooshing noise?

You could have a split breather or faulty servo. Auto Experts Medway in Chatham near Rochester in Medway can repair these types of faults.

How a Servo Works:

The vacuum servo is used in most modern hydraulic brake systems and is attached between the master cylinder and the brake pedal. it provides braking assistance by using a stored vacuum to increase braking force applied by the driver to the brake pedal.

These units consist of a hollow housing with a movable rubber diaphragm across the centre, creating two chambers. When attached to the intake manifold of the engine or the vacuum pump, the pressure in one of the chambers of the unit is lowered. This lower vacuumed pressure allows the force exerted onto the pedal to increase threefold and allows for better braking efficiency.

A common fault with brake servos will be a split breather resulting in a sucking or whooshing noise. This can give you the effect of a very hard brake pedal.
