Brake Fluid Changes

Does your vehicle’s brake pedal feel soft or spongy?

Is the fluid low or does it need to be changed or is the warning light on? Auto Experts Medway in Chatham near Rochester in Medway is the local garage for brake faults.

How Brake Fluid Works:

Brake fluid does not compress. The brake fluid is forced to operate the brake caliper pistons and wheel cylinders when the master cylinder piston is operated by the brake pedal. This movement of fluid operates pistons in the caliper and wheel cylinders which operate the brake pads and shoes.

There are several types of brake fluid. DOT 4 brake fluid is most commonly used in motor vehicles, these fluids are glycol based and are highly corrosive and absorb moisture over time. When brake fluid has absorbed moisture over time, it needs to be changed. Water can be compressed, which is why a brake pedal might feel light, soft or spongy.

Why not contact us and we can check how low your vehicle’s brake fluid level is and how much moisture is present. Our workshop in Chatham near Rochester in the centre of Medway is fully equipped to deal with all makes of vehicles that are on the road today.
